Aberdeen IronBirds the Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles
In January of 2002 Cal Ripken, Jr. and the Ripken Baseball Group purchased the Aberdeen IronBirds, formerly the Utica Blue Sox. The IronBirds, the Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, compete in the New York Penn League. The team plays a 76-game summer schedule, with 38 home games at Ripken Stadium, a 6,000 seat, state-of-the-art facility in the Ripken family’s hometown of Aberdeen, Maryland.

With the implementation of a proven sales model and a dedicated staff, the IronBirds have become one of two minor league teams to successfully sell out every home game through its first five years of existence. Aside from playing host to first-class, affordable family entertainment during the season, Ripken Stadium is a year-round facility which caters to weddings, banquets, reunions, concerts and much more.

Some of the Orioles top prospects have made their way from Aberdeen and into Baltimore in the past several seasons, Aberdeen IronBirds Gameincluding Orioles closer Chris Ray, outfielder Nick Markakis and recent call-up Adam Loewen. Last year, the IronBirds had three of the top 10 prospects in all of the New-York Penn League, including outfielder Nolan Reimold (#1), and pitchers Radhames Liz and Garrett Olson.

In 2006, the IronBirds will draw their 1,000,000th fan in team history in mid-July. Later in the summer, Ripken Stadium will host the second annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game (August 16, 2006). The game will pit prospects from National League affiliates against prospects from American League affiliates. Andy Etchebarren will return for his second year at the helm for the IronBirds, who remain one of the toughest tickets in town!
