Augusta GreenJackets is the Class-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants
In June of 2005, Ripken Professional Baseball purchased the Augusta GreenJackets from the HWS Baseball Group which owned the team since 1998. Formerly the Augusta Tourists, the GreenJackets were a founding member of the South Atlantic League in 1904.

Ripken Baseball officially took over the team’s operations in October 2005, setting out to create a new brand identity for the GreenJackets by establishing new uniforms and logos that were consistent with the Ripken Baseball theme.

The GreenJackets will play a 140 game season that started in April and ends in September. The Class-A South Atlantic League team is an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Ripken Professional Baseball recently announced the formation of Baseball Enterprises LLC, which will serve as the controlling entity for the Augusta GreenJackets. Baseball Enterprises is comprised of current and former major league ballplayers as well as other Auggie investors who now own shares in the South Atlantic League team. Some of the notable investors include Cal Ripken, Jr., Bill Ripken, Hall of Famers Eddie Murray and the late Kirby Puckett, current major leaguers Melvin Mora of the Baltimore Orioles, Jason Johnson of the Boston Red Sox and former big leaguers David Segui, Dennis Martinez, Mark Gubicza, Mike Bielecki, Mike Boddicker and Shane Reynolds.

As a result of Aberdeen IronBirds model, the Ripken Baseball Group has watched the city of Aberdeen establish itself as a premier minor league community and believes this success can be replicated in other markets. Thus, Ripken Professional Baseball was established with the lofty goal of acquiring 10 minor league clubs in 10 years.
