The 10th annual Cal Ripken World Series concluded in Aberdeen, MD on August 22, when the Forest Hills All-Stars from Tampa, FL defeated Mexico 7-6 to capture the World Championship.
The event proved to be a great success with a tremendous economic impact on the City of Aberdeen, Harford County and the entire State of Maryland. In addition, the 16 teams from across the globe had a wonderful and positive experience.
“While we can only crown one champion we work hard to make sure that all of the kids involved have a great time,” said the event’s host, Cal Ripken, Jr. “The support that we receive from the people of Aberdeen and throughout the County and State make it the wonderful event that it is.”
This year, the final three games of the tournament, the U.S. Championship Game, the International Championship Game and the World Championship were all broadcast live nationally on the MLB Network and in Maryland on WBAL TV.
Over 5,000 fans crammed into Cal, Sr.’s Yard in Aberdeen for the World Championship Game and thousands turned out during the week for the Opening Ceremonies and Pool Play games.
Bill Ripken, a 12-year MLB veteran and co-owner of Ripken Baseball said, “It seems as though our World Series is really starting to grow and with the MLB Network as a national television partner that will only continue in the years to come.” |
