For the seventh consecutive year, Mexico will play in the Cal Ripken World Series Championship Game. The team has won the International Division each year the tournament has been played in Aberdeen.
After a scoreless inning and a half of play, Mexico’s Julio Urias led off the bottom of the second with a double to right centerfield. Alejandro Pacheco then reached on a fielding error by Japan’s shortstop. Juan Cota followed with a walk to load the bases and Eduardo Gonzalez grounded to shortstop scoring Urias with the game’s only run.
Eduardo Gonzalez turned in an impressive performance on the mound for Mexico as he pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits and recording 10 strikeouts and no walks. In consecutive days, Mexico upset two previously undefeated teams, the Dominican Republic and Japan, to advance to the 2009 Cal Ripken World Series Championship Game. They will take on the winner of U.S. Championship Game between Forest Hills, FL and Upper Montgomery Athletic Club (Maryland). |
