It will be an incredible game this afternoon as Florida’s high-flying offense takes on a team from Mexico that carries some incredible arms on the mound.

Mexico advanced to today’s World Championship game on the arm of Eduardo Gonzalez, who threw a complete game two-hitter against another powerful offense in Japan. He struck out 10 batters while throwing a heavy dose of curveballs.

By league rules (pitchers cannot throw more than six innings on consecutive days), Gonzalez would normally be barred from throwing any innings today, but for the World Championship, his innings have been reset to zero.

Mexico had two players named to the All World Series Team: Jesus Gonzalez and Jesus Perez. Julio Urias, Luis Guzman, Hector Chapa and Irving Wilson all represent Mexico on this year’s Rawlings All Defense Team.

The Forest Hills All-Stars of Tampa, FL carry the best offense the Cal Ripken World Series has seen this year. As a team, they are batting .444 in six games, slugging at a .820 pace while scoring a total of 55 runs on 59 hits and crushing 13 home runs. That powerful offense is led by CRWS Batting Champ, Kyle Tucker, who is hitting an incredible .667 for the tournament. Tucker is helped out by heavy hitters Darren Miller, Jason Heinrich, Christian Whidden and Josh Russo, who have combined for 10 home runs and 31 RBI.

From the Southeast, Florida is well represented on the 2009 All World Series Team. Four players made it onto the exemplary roster. Darren Miller, Jason Heinrich, Christian Whidden, and Kyle Tucker were easy choices. Miller was also named the Most Outstanding Player in the US Division (.600, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 1.267 SLG%).

The 2009 Cal Ripken World Series World Championship will be played today at 3pm on Cal Sr.’s Yard and broadcast live on MLB Network.
