These sluggers include the Maryland State Champions, a Harford County representative, teams from eight regions across the U.S., and six international teams from Canada, Australia, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, and the Dominican Republic. Teams are tentatively scheduled to arrive August 8th and 9th, with Opening Ceremonies on the 10th. Games will run August 11th through the 18th.
To make this event possible, we are seeking 100 host families. Host families take in two players for the Series, providing food, housing, transportation, etc. In return to opening your homes and hearts, you’ll make friends and memories that’ll last a lifetime!
Why become a host family? We asked some of our returning host families why they chose to come back:
“[I’m hosting again because of]…the emptiness the day after they leave. They really fill your home.” - George Martin, Pacific Southwest Team
“I have made lifelong friendships with some of the host families on our team. We see each other throughout the year and I never would have met these people except for hosting. Another reason–it’s fun! These are 12 year old boys and they can be a lot of fun. …the majority of them had us laughing a lot. I know if we ever visited
British Columbia , we would have numerous places to stay. I still get Christmas cards from some of them.” – Dawn Tallio, Team
Of course, not every host family can return:
“I accidentally planned our family vacation the same week as the World Series. We’re going to Disney World but my kids are so upset with me because they really wanted us to host again!” - Kim Fortuna,
Pacific Northwest Team
And so we’re looking for new host families. We support host families with coupons, gift certificates, t-shirts to support their team, and in whatever other ways we can. However, we believe that the bonds made throughout the 10 day period are what make the host family experience truly worth it. In addition to making new friends, you can also learn about other cultures and other parts of the country, and if you have kids 11-13, they can batboys or team ambassadors!
Requirements:
- fill out the host family application
- background checks for every household member 18 and older
- home inspection (general safety)
- have a separate bed for each player (air mattresses can be provided if needed)
- ability to take the players to and from games/practices during the day and early evening (relatives may assist, and it may be possible to carpool)
Teams are starting to fill up, so apply soon to become a host family for your preferred team!
