Ripken Baseball officially broke ground on the latest addition to the Aberdeen baseball complex on Monday, October 17th. H&S Properties, Marriott Hotels and Ripken Baseball have partnered to construct a one-of-a-kind double Marriott hotel that will be a replica of the warehouse at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The warehouse, which is being constructed beyond the right field wall of Cal, Sr.'s Yard, will hold two different Marriott hotels. Of the 198 rooms planned, 120 will be occupied by Courtyard by Marriott and the other 78 rooms will be occupied by the Residence Inn.
Still in its finishing stages, Cal, Sr's Yard is youth stadium owned and operated by the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. The entire stadium, excluding the hotel project, is being financed solely by corporate and individual donations. When finished the stadium will be a replica of Camden Yards.
The warehouse hotel project is a joint venture between H & S Properties, Marriott Hotels and Ripken Baseball. The structure is expected to be completed in the summer of 2006, in time for the 2006 Cal Ripken World Series.
The hotel will offer visitors of the Ripken Baseball complex a convenient place to stay while in town for Ripken camps, tournaments and minor league baseball. As Harford County continues to grow there has also been a growing need for large conference spaces. The hotel will have adequate conference rooms and a banquet facility.
