The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation hosted a weekend baseball experience in Cooperstown, New York September 30-October 2 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester & Syracuse. Forty-seven boys from the clubs were bused into Cooperstown to participate on behalf of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation.
The boys arrived in Cooperstown Friday night and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. On Saturday each group participated in an instructional clinic at Cooperstown Central School that taught them baseball "The Ripken Way." Additionally, the campers took a tour of the Hall of Fame museum to learn more about the history of baseball. On Sunday the group visited the Cooperstown Wax Museum before departing for home.
The Foundation provides a variety of grants to community groups, working very closely with the Boys & Girls Clubs, and schools throughout the nation, in order to strengthen and support grassroots youth baseball and softball in local communities and to increase opportunities for youth.
