Beginning October 23rd Cal Ripken will have his own weekly advice column in the Baltimore Sun. Cal's column will run in the Sun's new Modern Life section, which goes out to readers every Sunday, and will target parents who have questions pertaining to their childrens' involvement in youth sports.
Similar to the youth segments featured on Cal and Bill's XM radio show that encourage youth coaches and parents to share their concerns and questions, "Ask Cal" will give parents and coaches another platform to get feedback. The column will be a "Dear Abby" for parents who have kids involved in youth sports!
When asked about the column by the Baltimore Sun, Cal commented "I am excited to have a great forum like this that will enable me to interact with other sports parents and give them my perspective on some issues. Let me make it clear that I don't consider myself an 'expert' and I don't think that I have all of the answers. I am a father of two kids who are active in youth sports, and I have some ideas about how the sports experience can be great for kids at every age. I would love for this column to be interactive and a real exchange of ideas."
The Balitmore Sun will be offering Cal's column to each of the publications in the Tribune community, over 140 papers nationwide. The column will introduce readers to Cal's insights and what to expect in his new book, Parenting Young Athletes the Ripken Way, that is being released in the spring of 2006.
