The Aflac Classic is quickly becoming the premier high school all-star baseball game in the country and we are very proud to be hosting it again at Ripken Stadium, said Cal Ripken, Jr., the games Honorary Chairman. The event is a real celebration of baseball and provides a great experience to the top high school players in the nation. This year we will play the game in the midst of the Cal Ripken World Series and an IronBirds homestand, so the game at every level will be represented. Aflac has been a wonderful partner for the game and they continue to give back by contributing proceeds to pediatric oncology research.
The Aflac Classic showcases the nations top rising high school senior baseball players in an East versus West match-up. Since the games inception in 2003, the Aflac All-American alumni have had a huge impact in the past two Major League Baseball first-year player drafts. Overall, there have been 18 alumni selected in the first round, including the past two No. 1 overall selections: Matt Bush (2003, San Diego) and Justin Upton (2004, Arizona).
In less than three years, the Aflac Classic has become the all-star event high school baseball players strive to play in, said Al Johnson, 2nd Vice President, Advertising and Branding at Aflac. The game has achieved unparalleled success in the baseball world and most importantly, is proving to be an effective vehicle in raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer.
The Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic is endorsed by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association as the marquee prep All-American event. The event also exclusively features baseballs leading industry publication Baseball America and prep scouting service Perfect Game USA as the official Aflac Classic selection partners.
