RIPKEN TOURNAMENTS BACKGROUND
Ripken Baseball began hosting youth tournaments in 2003 with just 11 teams. Only 3 years later, Ripken Baseball has grown to become one of the most professional and thorough youth tournament hosts in the country. In 2006, Ripken Tournaments saw over 800 teams from 26 states pass through the Aberdeen and Myrtle Beach complexes. Tournament teams from 9u–16u compete each year from March through November in standard weekend, holiday weekend and week-long tournament formats.
ABERDEEN, MD
In the past 3 years, what was once a quaint stop off of Interstate 95 has transformed into a destination for children, families and teams to play, learn and cherish the game of baseball. The Ripken Academy consists of a youth-sized version of Oriole Park at Camden Yards- known as Cal Sr.'s Yard- and youth-sized replicas of Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and Memorial Stadium. The Academy also boasts a one-of-a-kind circular training infield, batting cages and a tee/soft-toss area.
Tournaments in Aberdeen include:
-
3 game minimum (weekend tournaments)
-
4 game minimum (holiday tournaments)
-
Official Nike Baseballs and Certified Umpires
-
Games on Ripken Academy's signature, professional-quality fields
-
Access to the entire complex, including concessions, on-site photography, merchandise venues, batting cages, pitching mounds & more!
In 2006, this unique youth baseball destination attracted over 8,500 participants and over 20,000 visitors. The complex continues to grow and improve - "The Warehouse" located at our Oriole Park at Camden Yards opens its doors as a Marriott hotel in December 2006, and our very own “Green Monster” was recently constructed in left field of Fenway Park.
MYRTLE BEACH, SC
Due to the success of the Aberdeen complex as a tournament destination and the desire to grow the game of baseball worldwide, Ripken Baseball opened a new complex in June of 2006 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Seven themed baseball fields (five youth and two full sized) have been individually modeled to the dimensions and character of historic parks, including Old Comiskey, Forbes Field, Ebbets Field and The Polo Grounds.
